You book the trip. Two weeks somewhere warm, or a long weekend in the mountains, or a flight to a country you've never visited. You look forward to it. The anticipation itself is a small relief — a point on the horizon that makes the present more survivable. Then you go. Then you come back. And within a week, sometimes less, the inbox has swallowed the break whole. Nothing has changed. This is the holiday paradox — and it's not because you chose the wrong destination.

A holiday works by interrupting the routine. It doesn't work by resolving what caused the depletion. And for someone dealing with genuine burnout — not ordinary tiredness, but the accumulated load of sustained high-stress performance — those are very different problems.
